Resilient Even When You Don’t Want to Be Post
Let’s be honest—resilience sounds great in theory. But in reality? Some days, you don’t want to “rise above” anything. You want to lie on the couch, eat an unreasonable amount of chips, and watch a show where someone else is struggling for once. (Looking at you, dramatic reality TV.)
But life doesn’t give us that option, at least not for long. Whether it’s heartbreak, failure, exhaustion, or just a rough Tuesday, resilience is often required before we feel ready.
Why Resilience Feels Like a Scam
When life knocks you down, the last thing you want to hear is, “Just get back up!” That’s like telling someone drowning in the ocean to “just swim.” Uh, yeah—kind of busy sinking here.
Resilience isn’t about pretending everything is fine when it’s not. It’s about acknowledging that things are hard, and then deciding they won’t define you. It’s about getting up even when you don’t feel like it.
How to Be Resilient (Even When You’d Rather Not Be)
1. Take a Break, But Don’t Quit
Rest is necessary. Quitting? Not so much. You can take a step back, breathe, and even cry a little (or a lot). But then, you move forward—slowly, awkwardly, maybe even grudgingly. Just don’t stay stuck.
2. Remember Who You Are (And Whose You Are)
God didn’t create you to be defeated. He made you strong—even if you don’t feel like it. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. When you don’t have it in you, lean on Him.
3. Laugh at the Absurdity of It All
Sometimes, the best response is to laugh. Life is weird, unpredictable, and occasionally ridiculous. Find humor in the struggle—because if you can laugh at it, you can get through it.
4. Focus on the Next Step, Not the Whole Mountain
If you look at everything ahead, it’s overwhelming. Just take the next small step. Maybe today that means answering one email, getting out of bed on time, or resisting the urge to text your ex. Small wins matter.
5. Turn the Mess Into a Message
Your struggles aren’t wasted. One day, you’ll use what you’re going through to help someone else. Your resilience is building a testimony—whether you see it now or not.
Resilience Isn’t About Feeling Strong—It’s About Moving Anyway
You don’t have to want to be resilient. You just have to keep going. And guess what? Every time you push through, even when you don’t feel like it, you’re proving to yourself (and to the world) that you’re stronger than you thought.
So, go ahead—take the break, eat the chips, watch the show. But when it’s time, get back up. Because the story isn’t over yet.
